America’s Dominant Political Power

Posted By on July 19, 2010

For years I have asked people the following, “What is the most powerful force in America today?” The responses have varied from “the media,” “the politicians” and some have even posited “the education system.” Until a couple of weeks ago, no one had given the answer I sought.

So, take a little time and think about it. What do you think it is?

Before I tell you my thoughts, let’s examine the circumstances which led me to my conclusion. After the 1996 Presidential Election, Bill Clinton mentioned the “mandate” he had received from the American voters re-electing him. President Clinton won the election with 49.23% of the popular vote, the remainder was split between Bob Dole and Ross Perot. BUT the real picture is yet to be seen. In that election ONLY 49.1% of the eligible voters voted, which means 50.9% didn’t. So this means that ONLY 49.23% of 49.1% of the people voted for Clinton, OR simply Clinton was elected by 24.17% of the American people! Put a different way, LESS THAN 1 out of 4 people favored Clinton’s re-election. Now that is a “mandate, ” but what kind of a mandate was it?

Now, contrast this to the first free elections held in Iraq in 2005. We must remember this election was preceded by multiple threats of suicide bombings, shootings and other various means of instilling fear in the populace. The citizens of Iraq were threatened with death, IF they voted. Yet, approximately 60% still turned out, cast their votes and proudly displayed their stained fingers declaring they had voted!

Here in America, with no threats, and supposedly in the freest society in the world even the election of 2008 only saw a voter turn out of approximately 57%. This was the highest turnout since 1968! Are you aware that in every election since 1960 the results could have been swayed by less than 1 vote PER PRECINCT, ONE VOTE?

I would state, without reservation, that the single most powerful political power or force in America today is APATHY! APATHY! In every case since 1960 IF every person who did not vote had voted for a viable third, or in the case of 1996 a fourth candidate, we would have had a DIFFERENT president altogether!

“We the People” have been sold down the river, and fed a continuous stream of lies, endless and overwhelming data AND convinced that our votes don’t make a difference. BULL MANURE! (Like that? I’m trying to clean up my language.) The chances are that at least half of the people you meet with and/or interact with every day have not voted in any election. THAT IS SAD, SAD, SAD!

The picture is even gloomier when we consider “off-year” elections. In these the percentages for voter turnout plummet to less than, yes, LESS THAN 37%, or 63% DON’T VOTE AT ALL. Is it any wonder we keep getting the same incompetent, bungling fools reelected in every election cycle?

Let’s look at some quotes from the past:

As the people are the only legitimate fountain of power, and it is from them that the constitutional charter, under which the several branches of government hold their power, is derived… James Madison, The Federalist #49.

I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations. James Madison, The Virginia Convention, 1788

Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves are its only safe depositories. Thomas Jefferson, 1781

I know of no safe repository of the ultimate power of society but the people… Thomas Jefferson

(All of the above quotes were obtained from

According to the Founding Fathers, from where does the power of our government proceed? “We the People.” We are the “fountain of power.” We the “safe depositories” of government. We hold the “ultimate power of society.” YET, WE have allowed “instances of the abridgement of freedom.” WE have empowered our government to “degenerate” by trusting “the rulers of the people alone.” WE have swallowed the lies fed to us HOOK, LINE AND SINKER!

Does ultimate power reside in Congress? NO! Representatives are elected every two years by the 37 to 55% of the voters who vote, meaning they are basically reelected because over 40 to 60% of the complainers DON’T vote! Senators are elected every 6 years, by the same people. Presidents are elected every 4 years. Supreme Court Justices and federal judges are appointed and put in place by the idiots we elect. What DOESN’T change? That over 40 to 60% of American’s DON’T vote. That’s what doesn’t change. You want change, REAL change? Then VOTE!

Finally, let’s remember the words of Montesquieu in his Spirit of the Laws, 1748:

The tyranny of a prince in an oligarchy is not so dangerous to the public welfare as the apathy of a citizen in a democracy.

“We” through APATHY are the greatest TYRANTS in America today.
